Faith-Based Talks
“A Box of Chocolates”
Like Forrest Gump’s mama always said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” I looked at life as an assortment of chocolates, trying different pieces, always sure it would be delicious. But time after time, what life actually brought me didn’t have the pleasant taste I was expecting.
But I came know that life’s chocolates were worth tasting, and to realize that God is the one who decides which candies I try next and how they will taste. And I continue to learn to trust His choices for me.
“Out of Order”
I was out of money … we thought all those credit card offers were only sent to the ‘special’ people. So we took advantage of all of them.
I was out of time … sadly, the schedule ruled our family … we didn’t rule the schedule.
I was out of strength … it became apparent that there really was no such thing as a “super woman” and “having it all.”
I had spent it all. Candy Troutman, an empty nester from Boise, Idaho, shares her journey from ‘out of order’ to a life of balance and joy.
“Moving Toward Joy”
Stuck in the mire of obligation, living with the consequences of poor choices, and struggling with her value as a person, Candy shares her journey to living in her strengths and moving toward joy!
“Re-Cycled, Re-Purposed, Re-Used”
Candy hasn’t gone hard core “green” but she has been:
RECYLCLED: lovingly plucked from her white trash childhood;
REPURPOSED: through the scrubbing and melting down process;
and is being REUSED in her gifts and strengths to leave the world a better place than she found it.

Personal Mentoring
Hurried? Harried? Forgotten your heartsong? Has your joy gone missing?
Do you hear what I hear? Frazzled … Exhausted
I hear hurried, harried voices with little space in their lives for the things they say they value most. Simple living, white space, margin, rest, solitude … words we don’t live out often in our culture. God most often speaks to us in the quietness because that’s when we are still long enough to hear His voice. Our fast pace can crowd out His voice. Cluttered calendars and homes lead to cluttered minds and restless souls.
Do you hear what I hear? Insecurity … Fear
I hear timid voices who are too afraid to live fully in the strengths and gifts and passions they’ve been given. Our insecurities and fears lead to spiritual confusion, lack of spiritual power and deprive the Body of Christ of the things God created us to be and do.
Do you hear what I hear? Self-Focused
I hear loud voices … demanding-my-rights … do-what-makes-me-happy … I’ll-do-it-my way … I-want-it-all-now voices. Focusing on ourselves, our comfort at any cost never leads to a joy-filled life. There will always be something more to have, to experience, to fill our emptiness. It’s a dead end.
Do you hear what I hear? Crushing debt
I hear frantic, desperate voices who have used debt to create a certain lifestyle. Our culture has made it seem normal to be a slave to the borrower. But sadly, it has only led to confusion, fear, embarrassment and hopelessness.
God promises Joy, Peace and Hope
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
If we will create time and space in our lives to learn God’s ways and live as though we believe His promises, He will use us to fulfill His will and purposes to build His kingdom in meaningful ways.
A Song …
If you really twist my arm, I might provide some live music for your event as well.
“I sing in the shadow of your wings.” Ps. 63:7
I am fully aware that …“You are accountable only for your gifts and ministry. Don’t look at the effects and evaluate yourself or your gifts on that basis. Gifts are from the Spirit, the ministry is from the Lord, and the effect is from God — your responsibility is simply to be faithful.” ~Kay Arthur

Hi Candy –
Thank you for your wonderful presentation at the Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church Women’s Retreat at Trinity Pines. Especially thank you for modeling your words by loving your friend Karla enough to fill in for her. I’m sorry that Nancy and I had to leave early to get our dear friend, Frances, home. Frances is fine except for the sudden loss of vision she experienced Saturday evening during our small group session. I took her to the eye doctor on Monday. The diagnosis was that she had a small stroke in her eye. Nothing can be done by the doctor but we know we can rely on the Great Physician! When I saw Frances on Tuesday, she thought she might be seeing a little better – difficult to gauge – but the Dr. did say is was possible that over time she might regain a little bit of sight in that eye.
Many thanks again. It was such a pleasure to meet you. May God richly bless your continuing ministry.

Hi Candy,
Cathy Daniels- Lee from the Nussbaum Center was impressed with your site and showed it to me!
I am working on my marketing and business plan with her and we know my site which is only a blog from my book publisher, needs to be changed.
You did this on WordPress didn’t you? Did you have help, or is it pretty easy to do?
Pray for me as I continue to do what God has in mind! You are an awesome blessing to all of us!
Hugs and Blessings,

Hi Candy –
I came across this again and thought you might want to pass it on. As hopeful and joyful as Christmas is. This has stuck in my mind every Christmas. I received this email about 3 years ago, maybe more.

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY
Dear loved ones,
As you well know, we are getting closer to my birthday. Every year there is a celebration in my honor and I think that this year the celebration will be repeated. During this time there are many people shopping for gifts, there are many radio announcements, TV commercials, and in every part of the world everyone is talking that my birthday is getting closer and closer.
It is really very nice to know, that at least once a year, some people think of me. As you know, the celebration of my birthday began many years ago. At first people seemed to understand and be thankful of all that I did for them, but in these times, no one seems to know the reason for the celebration. Family and friends get together and have a lot of fun, but they don’t know the meaning of the celebration.
I remember that last year there was a great feast in my honor. The dinner table was full of delicious foods, pastries, fruits, assorted nuts and chocolates. The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many beautifully wrapped gifts. But, do you want to know something? I wasn’t invited. I was the guest of honor and they didn’t remember to send me an invitation. The party was for me, but when that great day came, I was left outside, they closed the door in my face …. and I wanted to be with them and share their table.
In truth, that didn’t surprise me because in the last few years all close their doors to me. Since I wasn’t invited, I decided to enter the party without making any noise. I went in and stood in a corner. They were all drinking; there were some who were drunk and telling jokes and laughing at everything. They were having a grand time. To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing a long white beard entered the room yelling “Ho-Ho-Ho”! He seemed drunk. He sat on the sofa and all the children ran to him, saying “Santa Claus, Santa Claus” .. as if the party were in his honor!
At 12 Midnight all the people began to hug each other; I extended my arms waiting for someone to hug me and … do you know … no one hugged me. Suddenly they all began to share gifts. They opened them one by one with great expectation. When all had been opened, I looked to see if, maybe, there was one for me.
What would you feel if on your birthday everybody shared gifts and you did not get one? I then understood that I was unwanted at that party and quietly left.
Every year it gets worse. People only remember to eat and drink, the gifts, the parties and nobody remembers me. I would like this Christmas that you allow me to enter into your life. I would like that you recognize the fact that almost two thousand years ago I came to this world to give my life for you, on the cross, to save you. Today, I only want that you believe this with all your heart.
I want to share something with you. As many didn’t invite me to their party, I will have my own celebration, a grandiose party that no one has ever imagined, a spectacular party.
I’m still making the final arrangements. Today I am sending out many invitations and there is an invitation for you. I want to know if you wish to attend and I will make a reservation for you and write your name with golden letters in my great guest book. Only those on the guest list will be invited to the party. Those who don’t answer the invite, will be left outside.
Be prepared because when all is ready, you will be part of my great party.
See you soon.
I Love you!
Jesus
P.S. Please share this message with your loved ones, before Christmas.

Thanks Candy,
I met Cynthia at the Writing for the Soul conference in Colorado Springs last February. She encouraged me at a time when I really needed it. And Light & Life has purchased a couple of my articles.
I read your bio. It seems you and I have a lot in common, except for the chocolate thing. Chocolate is my favorite treat. My husband, Loren, and I are high school sweethearts too. We married in 1978. We have 3 children and 7 grandchildren.
Looking forward to getting to know you.
